Visit visa holders will not be allowed to enter Makkah during Haj, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday (May 23).

The restriction will be enforced starting May 23 until June 21. According to the ministry, visitors currently in Saudi Arabia on visit visa will not be able to travel to Makkah during this period.

Violators will be given penalties under Saudi Arabia’s laws and regulations, the Ministry of Interior warned.

Those wishing to perform Hajj in Makkah are required to present a Haj permit. Any other form of visit visa is not considered a permit, according to the ministry.

Earlier, Saudi Arabia’s Fatwa Council also banned performing Haj without a permit to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims. Saudi residents are also required to show permits to enter Makkah. ICA/Expat Media
