Vico Sotto summoned by NBI over lockdown violation

MANILA – Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has been summoned by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Wednesday (April 1) for possible violation of the government’s quarantine measures.

NBI Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin said Sotto has been sent an invitation letter to allow him to explain his side.

The young mayor allegedly broke the government policy on community quarantine to curb the spread of coronavirus in the Philippines. NBI has asked him to submit his explanation on April 7.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered local government units to impose a lockdown and transport ban in Luzon, but Sotto allowed the limited operation of tricycles in his city to service health workers, patients and essential business staff on the first two days of the lockdown.

Dutete had warned that officials who violated national government rules will face administrative or criminal charges.

Sotto had said he “will always just do what I believe is right” but did not intend to defy the national government’s order. When his request to allow limited transportation was rejected, he said his city would comply with national directives. DAJ/Expat Media
