UAE convicts 53 in biggest terror trial of 2024

Fifty-three members of a secret terrorist organization in the UAE were sentenced on Wednesday (July 10) to long prison terms and fines ranging from Dh10 million to Dh20 million.

The Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeals sentenced 43 people to life in jail for establishing and managing the Justice and Dignity Organisation to commit terrorism in the UAE.

The court also sentenced five people to 15 years in jail for publishing anti-government articles and posts on social media. Another five defendants were sentenced to 10 years in jail and fined Dh10 million each for money laundering to create funding for the terrorist group.

Six companies and their officials were fined Dh20 million each for money laundering and using the funds to help the terrorist organization. The court ordered that all their assets be seized and the companies closed. ICA/Expat Media
