UAE: No new visas will be issued from March 17

DUBAI – No new UAE visa will be issued to all foreigners beginning on March 17 as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus pandemic, the UAE announced on Saturday (March 14).

The decision does not apply to holders of diplomatic passports and anyone who was issued a visa before March 17.

In a statement, the Federal Authority For Identity and Citizenship (ICA) said the measure will be effective until countries of departure activate a mechanism for medical screening of passengers.

“The move comes as part of the precautionary measures taken by the UAE in response to the World Health Organisation’s declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic, a development which reflects the high risks now associated with travel under the current circumstances,” the authority said in a statement.

“The ICA affirms that the decision stems from the UAE’s deep sense of responsibility and diligent efforts in collaboration with other countries of the world to fight the coronavirus pandemic and survive this ongoing crisis,” the authority said.
