Six people reported missing after devastating floods in Nepal have been located by the UAE Search and Rescue Team as international efforts continued on Thursday (September 10) to find survivors and assist affected communities.

The UAE team located the six people in the Trishuli area while carrying out field operations in coordination with Nepalese authorities. Authorities did not provide further details.

The discovery comes as rescue teams continue working in some of the country’s most challenging and heavily affected areas, where floods and landslides have damaged homes, roads and critical infrastructure.

The UAE team is operating in Rasuwa and Trishuli, using advanced search and surveying equipment as well as drones for aerial imaging, surveys and three-dimensional mapping. The technology allows rescuers to survey difficult terrain, identify potential search areas and improve access to locations that may otherwise be difficult to reach.

The UAE launched its field operations in Rasuwa earlier this month as part of its humanitarian response to the disaster, according to the UAE.

“UAE teams continue their missions in coordination with the relevant Nepalese authorities, deploying all available resources and technical capabilities to support search and rescue operations and humanitarian relief efforts amid challenging field conditions,” said Hammoud Al Afari, Director of UAE Relief Operations.

The rescue operation is part of a wider UAE humanitarian response that includes both search and rescue missions and the delivery of emergency supplies.

The UAE has sent four relief aircraft to Nepal carrying a total of about 186 tonnes of humanitarian and relief aid. The supplies include food, shelter and medical supplies, tents, power generators and other logistical equipment.

The fourth relief aircraft arrived in Nepal on Tuesday (September 8), carrying about 38 tonnes of aid, including 500 tents and 108 relief packages, according to the UAE. The UAE is also procuring essential supplies locally in Nepal to speed up deliveries to communities in need.

A specialised search and rescue team from Dubai Police has been deployed as part of the operation, using advanced equipment to search affected locations and assess damaged sites.

The continuing operation comes after an August 26 disaster triggered by an ice and rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border, sending huge amounts of water, mud and debris through affected areas. The floods and landslides caused widespread destruction and left thousands of people dead or missing. Search operations have continued in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and other badly affected districts. ICA/Expat Media
