UAE customs officers have seized 16.2 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine concealed inside a vehicle tyre in an attempted drug smuggling operation at a land border crossing.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) said inspectors became suspicious of the vehicle after advanced scanning systems detected unusual indicators as it entered the country.
A detailed manual inspection followed, with assistance from the Customs and Security Support Department’s K9 team, which specialises in detecting narcotics. The search uncovered the drugs, which had been professionally concealed inside the tyre.
The seizure highlights how advanced screening technology and specialised detection teams are being used to intercept prohibited substances before they enter the UAE.
According to ICP, the General Directorate of Ports Security recorded 765 narcotics seizures from the beginning of 2026, involving approximately 390kg of narcotics and 50,000 pills.
The authority commended the inspectors for their vigilance and professionalism, saying it would continue to strengthen inspection capabilities to help protect the community from the dangers of illegal drugs. ICA/Expat Media
