UAE okays job loss insurance scheme for workers

DUBAI – The UAE has announced a new unemployment insurance scheme that will protect employees in the country in case of job loss.

The new unemployment insurance scheme will offer cash within a time period to an insured person who lost his or her job.

It was approved in a UAE Cabinet meeting on Monday (May 9), chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

“The aim is to enhance the competitiveness of the labour market in the UAE, protect employees and establish a stable work environment,” Sheikh Mohammed said.

There were yet no further details announced about the scheme.

However, it is part of a latest string of reforms announced in the UAE in recent months. The UAE recently introduced a new jobseeker’s visa that will allow visitors to come to the country in search of work opportunities. The visa will be available starting in September. ICA/Expat Media
