Britney Spears in talks for sequel to Crossroads

Ahead of the release of her explosive memoir on Tuesday, music icon Britney Spears is reportedly in talks for a potential sequel to her 2002 movie Crossroads, director Tamra Davis said.

Davis said, “I’m currently working with Van Toffler, who was the producer on it, and I think he’s been talking to Britney about it, with her management.”

She added: “I don’t think she really wants to act so much, but I know Ann (Carli) spoke to Shonda (Rhimes) about something, and Shonda had an idea, so who knows if that will have life.”

In her memoir, The Woman in Me, Britney revealed that acting in the movie “wasn’t easy”. “My problem wasn’t with anyone involved in the production, but with what acting did to my mind. I think I started method acting — only I didn’t know how to break out of my character,” Britney said.

In a previous interview with People magazine, the singer also said the same thing: “I hope I never get close to that occupational hazard again. Living that way, being half yourself and half a fictional character, is messed up. After a while, you don’t know what’s real anymore,”

In the teen-comedy film Crossroads, Britney starred with Zoe Saldana and Taryn Manning as a group of high school friends on a road trip with a guy them met after graduating.

Justin Timberlake years

In her memoir, Britney also detailed her relationship with Justin Timberlake. “There were a couple of times during our relationship when I knew Justin had cheated on me. Especially because I was so infatuated and so in love, I let it go,” she writes.

She also wrote about her pregnancy and agreeing to a secret abortion. “I agreed not to have the baby. Abortion was something I never could have imagined choosing for myself, but given the circumstances, that is what we did,” she writes.

They kept it from Britney’s family. “It was important that no one find out about the pregnancy or the abortion, which meant doing everything at home,” she wrote. “I kept crying and sobbing until it was all over,” she wrote. “It took hours, and I don’t remember how it ended, but I do, twenty years later, remember the pain of it, and the fear.”

Timberlake broke up with her through text message while making his 2002 solo debut album, “Justified,” Britney said, adding that the singer “decided to use me as ammunition for his record.” Britney said she isolated herself in a New York apartment for months after the breakup. One of her few visitors was Madonna.

Baby One More Time

Britney said her hit song Baby One More Time was inspired by Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love.” Britney said she was listening to the song before going to record Baby One More Time, and stayed up late that her voice became raspy, which made her song iconic.

She also said that she came up with the concept of the music video. Jive Records wanted her to “play a futuristic astronaut”, but she said that “I thought people would want to see my friends and me sitting at school, bored, and then as soon as the bell rang, boom—we’d start dancing.”

Motherhood and mental health

Britney married dancer Kevin Federline in 2004 and they have two sons. She said that after the children were born, she suffered from perinatal depression that was made worse by the paparazzi hounding her.

Britney and Kevin divorced in 2007, and Britney said she was hospitalized in 2008 after a SWAT team stormed the bathroom to take her son in a custody standoff.

“I just couldn’t let him go. I didn’t want anyone taking my baby,” she writes. “Before I knew what was happening, a SWAT team in black suits burst through the bathroom door as if I’d hurt someone.”

Shaving her head

Britney said she shaved her own head at a Los Angeles salon as an act of rebellion against the media, the paparazzi, and her family, who expected her to behave like a pretty and proper pop star even though she was “out of my mind with grief” over the custody battle.

“Shaving my head was a way of saying to the world: F—- you,” she writes.”

Conservatorship

In her memoir, Britney also detailed the conservatorship that began in 2008, with her father taking over her life and finances. “He’s always been all about the money,” she writes. CAM/Expat Media
