Touched by the sight of an Iraqi girl mourning the loss of her horse, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has gifted a herd of horses to the young rider.
The Dubai ruler’s kind gesture came after the 8-year-old horse rider, Lania Fakher, went viral on social media following a video clip showing her crying over her dead horse.
The mare, called Jasno, was a gift from her father when she was five years old. Lania has reportedly been taking care of the sick horse and feeding it until it died. She said that she continues to visit the horse’s grave to leave apples and sugar.
In Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed, who is also a passionate equestrian, was moved by Lania’s love for her horse that he sent her a herd of horses. He also gave orders to help the young Iraqi horse rider establish an equestrian training centre. Lania has said it is her dream to have her own equestrian place to train young people in Kurdistan.
