Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has approved the first recipient of the Mohammed bin Rashid Leadership Medal.
Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has approved the first recipient of the Mohammed bin Rashid Leadership Medal, the highest accolade within the Government of Dubai.
The medal will honour a Director-General who demonstrates outstanding success in developing and empowering second-tier leaders, with the inaugural recipient set to be announced and honoured at the Mohammed bin Rashid Leadership Forum 2026.
Sheikh Hamdan, who is also Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, said building the next generation of government leaders is essential to the long-term strength of public institutions. “The sustainability of our government institutions relies primarily on preparing strong, capable young leaders across the second and third tiers,” he said.
The medal is designed not only to recognise individual leadership but also to encourage government entities to establish stronger systems for developing future leaders. It will recognise organisations that give emerging leaders greater authority, involve them early in decision-making and assign them strategic responsibilities that prepare them for future roles.
The initiative also aims to highlight successful government entities that have made significant progress in leadership development so their practices can be adopted by other organisations.
The design of the medal will be unveiled during the Mohammed bin Rashid Leadership Forum 2026, where the inaugural winner will also be announced.
The first selection process involved 32 Directors-General and second-tier leaders. More than 100 interviews were conducted as part of the assessment, with 10 independent international leadership experts serving as evaluators.
The Supervisory Committee overseeing the medal said the evaluation involved several stages, including reviews of documents and evidence and specialised interviews. The process was designed to ensure objectivity and impartiality in identifying the Director-General who best meets the medal’s leadership criteria and objectives. ICA/Expat Media
