Sharjah’s Al Taawun Square will open to traffic on November 4.
Motorists heading to Sharjah’s International Book Fair will be able to use the newly designed Al Taawun Square from November 4, as authorities prepare to ease traffic movement around one of the emirate’s busy junctions.
Sharjah authorities have unveiled the planned design of Al Taawun Square, which is scheduled to open to vehicles on the same day as the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) 2026.
The design shows the square surrounded by traffic-light-controlled intersections.
The opening is expected to facilitate journeys for visitors travelling to Expo Centre Sharjah during the book fair, which draws visitors from across the UAE and beyond.
The development comes as construction continues on the Al Taawun Tunnel project, which is intended to improve traffic flow along the busy Sharjah-Dubai corridor.
The tunnel is being built to address congestion at Al Taawun Square, a major traffic bottleneck for motorists travelling between the two emirates. Once operational, the project is expected to reduce waiting times for motorists by as much as 85 per cent.
The first phase of the tunnel project is scheduled to open in November 2026, while the wider development is expected to be completed by February 2027. ICA/Expat Media
