DUBAI – Popular Instagram celebrity Raymond Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi, has been arrested in Dubai for online fraud.
Dubai Police said Abbas, 38, was arrested on June 10 and charged for “obtaining money from others through fraudulent means”.
A dozen other people working with Abbas in online scams were also arrested in Dubai. The case has been referred to the public prosecution for legal action.
“Initial information includes that he was part of this gang which fraudulently obtained cash and cars from people,” a senior prosecutor said.
The prosecutor said the group sent fake letters from email addresses identical to those of legitimate companies “targeting customers of these companies, with the purpose of diverting payments to themselves.”
