MANILA – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said on Monday (June 22) it is investigating a rape threat against actress Sharon Cuneta’s daughter, Frankie Pangilinan, with an official saying that the offender may face up to 12 years in jail.
Cuneta on Saturday posted on Instagram an alleged quote from a certain Sonny Alcos who threatened to rape her teenage daughter, who started the #HiJaAko online movement to end sexual violence against women.
“I will find you,” a furious Cuneta wrote on social media. The megastar also vowed to take Alcos to court.
“You crossed the line. God help me and the law! God help when I find you. Hindi kita patatahimikin (I will not give you peace),” Cuneta said.
The actress has reportedly traced the man who made the malicious post, his address and the address of his employer.
Alcos, who was identified by social media users as Sonny Co, a UK-based employee of an airline company and a member of a Christian ministry, threatened to rape Frankie for calling out men who blamed rape victims for wearing inappropriate clothing. He also called Frankie’s father a monkey.
The rape threat came after Frankie stirred a debate on social media as she called out an apparent rape victim-blaming remark of TV host Ben Tulfo.
Meanwhile, NBI Cybercrime Division Chief Victor Lorenzo said the NBI is looking into the issue against Alcos.
If found guilty of issuing a threat or unjust vexation, he could face up to 12 years in jail under the Philippines’ Cybercrime Prevention Act, said NBI’s Lorenzo.
Meanwhile, the Department of Justice has said that Cuneta has reached out the authority for legal action against Alcos.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Cuneta expressed “strong desire to file a criminal complaint” against the social media offender.
Alcos has since deactivated his social media account. His wife and the Christian ministry where he is a member have also deactivated their social media accounts. CLM/Expat Media
