DUBAI – Kim Kardashian spoke up about her husband Kanye West’s bipolar illness after the rapper claimed in his first political rally that the reality TV actress considered aborting their first child, North.
In her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, Kardashian said West has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and said it’s “incredibly complicated and painful” for many to understand.
“As many of you know, Kanye has bipolar disorder. Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand,” she wrote. “I’ve never spoken publicly about how this has affected us at home because I am very protective of our children and Kanye’s right to privacy when it comes to his health. But today, I feel like I should comment on it because off the stigma and misconceptions about mental health.”
She said West is a “brilliant but complicated”, who underwent many struggles, including the loss of his mother, Donda West, in 2007.
“I understand Kanye is subject to criticism because he is a public figure and his actions at times can cause strong opinions and emotions,” she continued. “He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressures of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder. Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words sometimes do not align with his intentions.”
Her post comes three days after West, who announced earlier this month that he was running for president, spoke out against abortion on his first political rally on Sunday.
He got emotional as he said that his father had wanted an abortion and that he and his wife had considered an abortion when she was pregnant with their first child, North.
“Even if my wife were to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into the world, even when I didn’t want to,” West said. “She stood up, and she protected that child.”
He said that to discourage abortion, people should be given $1 million for each child they have.
West also posted a series of since-deleted tweets on Tuesday, suggesting he considered divorcing Kardashian. The reality TV actress has not commented on the matter. ICA/Expat Media
