India has approved 25 embarkation points for Hajj 2023, India’s Minister of Minority Affairs announced.
Four new embarkation points were approved, two in Kerala state, in Kannur and Calicut, Malabar area. The two other airports of embarkation were Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh and Agartala in Tripura.
The Gulf region hosts millions of expatriates from Kerala and the new embarkation points will be easy for them to bring their families and relatives on Hajj from this year onwards.
According to Smriti Zubin Irani, India’s Minister of Minority Affairs, the final number of embarkation points will be subject to a minimum number of passengers opting for an airport and the feasibility of setting up the related infrastructure.
Irani added that during interactive sessions with stakeholders, including Hajj committees in states, demands for more embarkation points.
The new airports for Hajj departures were added to alleviate the difficulties pilgrims face with fewer embarkation points. Kerala already has a third designated Hajj departure airport, Cochin. RZSP/Expat Media
