Free Dubai bus ride, 50% taxi fare discount during 24-hour sterilization campaign

DUBAI – Commuters who need to go out during Dubai’s extended 24-hour sanitation period will be able to avail of free public bus rides and a 50 percent discount on Dubai taxi fares, according to the Roads and Transport Authority on Saturday (April 4).

Commuters can also get a 50 percent discount on normal fares on franchised taxis and Dubai Taxi vehicles.

Earlier on Saturday evening, Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management extended the sterilization campaign in Dubai to 24 hours for two weeks. The authority said that the two-week period is subject to renewal.

The public will be expected to stay indoors throughout the 24-hour sterilization programme, with only those who need to buy essentials or are working in vital sectors allowed to go out.

According to the RTA, the Dubai Metro and Tram services will also be suspended during the sterilization period starting on Sunday (April 5).

“The measures aim to help members of the public who need to leave their homes for essential purposes and those who work in vital sectors,” said Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA. ICA/Expat Media
