A Filipino expat who has been buying Abu Dhabi Big Ticket entries for 15 years has become the latest Dh20 million grand prize winner after his ticket was selected in the live draw on Monday (August 3).
Reynaldo Herboso won the top prize after ticket number 267822 was picked during the Series 289 draw of Big Ticket.
The moment Herboso learned about his life-changing win came through a surprise phone call from Big Ticket host Richard during the live event.
“What happens at the third of every month? It’s the Big Ticket draw, isn’t it?” Richard asked Herboso on the call.
“Okay,” Herboso briefly replied.
Richard then revealed the news, saying: “You are at the Big Ticket live draw show right now because Reynaldo Herboso, you have just won Dh20 million! Congratulations!”
“I won? Really?” Herboso responded in disbelief before saying, “Thank you! Thank you!”
At the time of the announcement, Herboso said he was in Jebel Ali and had just finished work. He also shared that he was scheduled to go on vacation on Friday.
Herboso revealed that the winning ticket was purchased through a group of 10 people who pooled their money together. As a result, each member of the group will receive a share of Dh2 million from the Dh20 million prize. Herboso bought the group’s winning ticket through the Big Ticket website on July 13.
The Filipino expat said he has been participating in Abu Dhabi Big Ticket “continuously” for the past 15 years. Herboso, 61, is a baker who has lived in Dubai since 1988. He lived in the emirate with his wife before she passed away.
The winning ticket was selected by Kanika Arora from Delhi, India, who won the Dh25 million Abu Dhabi Big Ticket grand prize in the previous draw.
