A Filipina working as a caregiver in Jordan has been found dead in the basement of her employer’s home in Amman, according to reports on Friday (October 20).
The victim was identified as Mary Grace Santos, whose family reported her missing on October 11. She was found dead in the closet of her employer’s basement the next day.
According to a police report, Santos was raped and strangled. Police have arrested her co-worker’s son as the main suspect in the gruesome rape and murder.
The victim’s sister, Veronica, told media that the suspect had temporarily substituted his father to work in their employer’s garden that tragic day.
Jordanian authorities said that Santos’ attacker is an Egyptian who is still a minor. He will reportedly get the death penalty.
Santos had worked as a caregiver for an elderly couple in Amman since 2015. The 34-year-old was supporting her two teenage daughters in Pampanga, one of whom reportedly has a congenital heart disease and is scheduled for surgery.
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration assisted Santos’ family in locating her. The Department of Migrant Workers has promised to repatriate her remains by Saturday (October 21). ICA/Expat Media
