Salem Yousef Al Qaseer, Chairman of Sharjah Labour Standards Development Authority, presents the award to Expat Media on May 3, 2019.

Expat Media has been honoured with an excellence award from the Sharjah Labour Standards Development Authority (LSDA) on Friday (May 3).

The award was presented by Salem Yousef Al Qaseer, Chairman of LSDA, at the first Sharjah Filipino Labour Day Festival, which Expat Media co-organized.

Al Qaseer praised Expat Media for its role in uniting expats, particularly Filipinos, to be actively engaged through news, information and events in the UAE. Through its news arm and events management arm, Expat Media has worked with various organisations and agencies in the UAE, including the LSDA in Sharjah and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation in Dubai.

The inaugural Sharjah Filipino Labour Day Festival, which came on International Labour Day, drew hundreds of Filipinos and dozens of companies to the grounds of Sharjah Indian School in Al Ghubaiba, Sharjah from 9am to 7pm.

The festival included a medical and dental mission manned by various local government and non-profit volunteers, an awareness campaign on labour and local laws, hosted by speakers from LSDA and the Sharjah Police, as well as a bazaar featuring Filipino brands and companies, and various entertainment shows and competitions.

LSDA Chairman Al Qaseer called the festival an important step to working with the Filipino community in the emirates. Philippine Labor Attache Felicitas Bay hailed the Sharjah government for organising the event, urging Filipinos to work with the government in promoting Filipino culture and skills. GAC/Expat Media
