Passengers using the UAE’s Etihad Rail service could face fines of up to Dh10,000 for violating passenger regulations, including offences committed on board trains, at stations and within railway facilities.
Etihad Rail has issued a list of penalties covering a range of violations, from minor offences such as littering and occupying reserved seats without permission to serious breaches involving safety equipment, restricted areas and property damage.
The railway operator said authorised Etihad Rail employees have the authority to issue fines to passengers or visitors found violating the passenger regulations.
Fines must be paid by the offender or their authorised representative. Etihad Rail also clarified that paying a fine does not prevent cases from being referred to relevant authorities, including the Public Prosecution, or other legal action under applicable UAE laws.
