DUBAI – Most traffic accidents in Dubai are caused by young motorists, Dubai’s chief traffic prosecutor has revealed.
In a recent online event, Salah Bu Farousha said drivers between the age of 18 to 35 were responsible for most car crashes that led to severe injury or death in Dubai.
“Speeding, using mobile phones and failing to keep a safe distance between vehicles are the common causes of sudden collisions and lead to deadly consequences,” he said.
He also added that accidents happen when motorists drive below the minimum speed limit.
Last year, Dubai recorded a total of 1,360 car crashes in which 132 people were killed and 154 others seriously injured. Violators face punishment, including fines and jail terms.
“People need to be more careful behind the wheel, not because they fear the penalty but because they carry the responsibility of keeping themselves and others safe,” Bu Farousha said. ICA/Expat Media
