Major retailer Union Coop has announced a “price lock” on more than 70 essential grocery items this Ramadan.
According to Union Coop, the freeze in a price increase will take effect from Sunday (March 29) onwards, and will continue for six months.
The essential items include onions, apples, frozen chicken, eggs, flour, oil and other products.
“This move from Union Coop will not only help consumers welcome the holy month of Ramadan but also be a matter of joy for people struggling with global inflation. Union Coop is working closely with its suppliers to ensure a steady supply of these essential products across all its branches in Dubai,” according to Union Coop.
Earlier this week, the UAE’s Ministry of Economy approved a temporary increase in the prices of eggs and chicken products by a maximum of 13 percent.
According to the ministry, the temporary price hike would ensure that suppliers will be able to meet consumer needs in the UAE without a decrease in the supply. ICA/Expat Media
