Dennis Trillo appears to have sent pointed messages to Patrick Garcia after the actor publicly revisited his past relationship with Jennylyn Mercado and his efforts to reconnect with their son, Alex Jazz.
In an Instagram Story posted on Wednesday morning (September 30), Trillo wrote in Filipino: “I am not in favour of bashing. But thank you for remembering Jazz because your daughter was bashed. Spread Love not Hate ❤️.”
Hours later, Trillo posted on his TikTok account, “Kapag nag hugas ka ng kamay sa kanal, lalu lang dudumi (If you wash your hands in the ditch, it will just get dirtier).”
The posts did not name Garcia, but its wording came shortly after Garcia explained that his daughter, Michelle, was being targeted by online commenters because of his past relationship with Mercado.
Garcia said Michelle had approached him after becoming upset over the comments and asked him to tell his side of what happened with Mercado. He said that conversation eventually prompted him to speak publicly for the first time in nearly 18 years.
Trillo’s reference to Garcia “remembering Jazz” because his daughter had been bashed appears to question the timing of that renewed attention to Jazz.
At the same time, Trillo made clear that he was against online attacks, ending his Facebook message with “Spread Love not Hate.”
Patrick’s account
Garcia and Mercado were in a relationship in 2007 and announced Mercado’s pregnancy in January 2008. Their son, Alex Jazz, was born in August that year. The couple separated while Mercado was pregnant.
In his interview with Ogie Diaz aired on Tuesday (September 29), Garcia denied abandoning Mercado during her pregnancy. “To the bashers who keep bashing me, they hate me so much because they’re saying that I left Jen. No, that’s not true! I did not leave Jen,” Garcia said in Filipino.
He acknowledged that he was not present during the pregnancy, but said it was because Mercado did not want him there. Garcia also claimed that he had been trying to reconnect with Jazz since 2018 and discussed his difficulties communicating with Mercado.
Becky Aguila weighs in
Trillo’s post came as Mercado’s longtime manager Becky Aguila also publicly responded to Garcia.
Aguila wrote in Filipino: “Why did you have to resort to an interview? Even though Tita Lydia is no longer here, I am still here.”
She said Garcia could have approached her privately if he had concerns. “If you had concerns, you should have reached out to me and we could have sorted this out with Jen and Dennis. They are easy to talk to,” Aguila wrote in Filipino.
She also accused Garcia of putting Mercado and Jazz in a difficult position by publicly addressing the past while defending his daughter from online criticism. “With all your shortcomings toward Jen, especially toward Jazz, you chose to do an interview to protect your daughter from bashers at the expense of Jen and Jazz,” Aguila wrote in Filipino.
Aguila claimed that Mercado had chosen not to publicly discuss painful experiences involving Garcia because he was Jazz’s father and because she also wanted to respect his family. “There are a lot of things you did to hurt her, and she never told anyone about them out of respect for you, because you are the father of her child, and also out of respect for your family, who have been living peacefully,” she wrote in Filipino.
Aguila then challenged Garcia’s version of events, saying in Filipino: “I’m sorry, Patrick, but there are many things missing and added to your version of the truth.”
She ended her post by telling him: “All I can say is that you never deserved Jen’s love in the first place. And you will never earn my respect.”
Jennylyn stays silent
While Trillo and Aguila have responded, Mercado herself has opted not to publicly address Garcia’s account.
Aguila Entertainment said the actress would not comment or grant interviews about the interview.
“Everyone is entitled to share their story on whatever platform they choose. In this case, Jennylyn would rather not share her side of the story out of respect for the privacy and peace of mind of both her family and Patrick’s,” the agency said.
It also appealed to the public to stop attacking Garcia and his family. Trillo’s message, meanwhile, combined a defence of Jazz with a call for people to stop the bashing, leaving the strongest part of his response in the timing of his reference to Garcia “remembering” their son. CAM/Expat Media
