FLORIDA – A 7-year-old boy who hid inside a garbage can was nearly crushed to death after it was emptied into a garbage truck, Florida authorities said.
The incident happened last Tuesday as Elias Quezada climbed into his grandmother’s garbage can while playing outside.
Thankfully, garbage truck driver Waldo Fidele had noticed something unusual as the contents of the garbage can were emptied into the truck.
Fidele turned off the blade and called 911. The truck driver said the boy was unharmed and “seemed happy” when he spotted him inside the garbage truck.
“I said okay, you’re okay now,” said Fidele, who was praised by the boy’s grandmother for his quick action.
Quezada told WFLA in Tampa, Florida that he thought he was “going to be a mashed potato” after landing inside the garbage truck. CCP/Expat Media
