Cherie Gil dies

Veteran actress Cherie Gil has died, talent manager Annabelle Rama announced on social media on Friday (August 5). Gil was 59.

Rama wrote on Facebook: “Cherie Gil just passed away at 5pm today. Please pray for her.” Gil’s nephew, Sid Lucero, also confirmed the news.

Last February, Gil had shaved her head in what she described as a “rebirth” prior to moving to New York to start a new life.

“I was getting tired of myself. And I was just so angry and unhappy, so I sold everything and packed up,” she said in her last media interview with Mega Magazine.

She also revealed that she had therapy and counselling. She was reportedly receiving treatment at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Gil was best remembered for her role as Lavinia Arguelles on “Bituing Walang Ningning,” who delivered the iconic line, “You are nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!” ICA/Expat Media
