Bill Gates, Melinda Gates divorce: How will they split their billions?

 

DUBAI – Microsoft’s Bill Gates and wife Melinda are divorcing. What is at stake following their divorce?

The two, who met at a dinner for Microsoft, have been married for 27 years and have three children, Jennifer, 25; Rory, 21; and Phoebe, 18.

Bill Gates and Melinda announced they would continue to work as part of their charity Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation but “no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives”.

How much will they end up with in the divorce? Details have not been disclosed, but according to a separation agreement, they are seeking division of joint assets.

It is believed that joint assets will include the couple’s custom mansion near Seattle that has an assessed value of $140 million.

What is going to happen to their charity? The pair said they will continue to work together in their roles and co-chairs and trustees of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

From 1994 to 2018, the couple donated more than $36 billon to the foundation.

Bill and Melinda have said in previous media interviews that they planned to donate majority of their wealth to charity, leaving an inheritance of just $10 million for each of their children.
