A bird's eye view of Austria.

Why Austria is the next job destination for Filipinos

Hundreds of thousands of work opportunities in nearly 100 occupations are opening up in Austria for Filipinos, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

Austria said it would need about 200,000 workers in 98 occupations, according to DMW Undersecretary for Policy and International Cooperation PY Caunan.

The DMW recently announced that it is in the process of signing a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) with Austria, as well as Hungary and Portugal for jobs for Filipinos.

Caunan said the department will announce these job openings as part of the special hiring program that it will launch soon.

“We are looking forward to signing a bilateral labor agreement for general cooperation for skilled workers in Austria,” she added.

Caunan quoted Austria officials as saying that they will ease the process of going there, as well as the professional qualification for Filipino workers to be recognized in Austria.

Caunan said that successful applicants can expect a high salary ranging from 2,500 Euros to 2,800 Euros, plus a 14th-month pay, reunification with family members for full-pledge nurses, and a pathway for obtaining a permanent residency and citizenship. ICA/Expat Media
