Atom Araullo files ₱2M lawsuit against SMNI hosts Badoy, Celiz

Broadcast journalist Atom Araullo filed a P2 million lawsuit on Monday (September 11) against on Sonshine Media Network International (SMNI) hosts Lorraine Badoy and Jeffrey Celiz.

Filing his complaint at the Office of the Prosecutor in Quezon City, Araullo is seeking redress for “damages and injuries suffered due to defamatory statements maliciously disseminated.”

Badoy and Celiz allegedly tagged Araullo as aligning with the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army – National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).

“It is my considered belief that the nature of their remarks goes far beyond the boundaries of fair criticism, and are designed to discredit, intimidate, and foment public animosity towards both me and my family. It also seems to be part of a broader pattern to harass and undermine members of the media whose reporting does not fit their agenda,” Araullo said.

Badoy and Celiz claimed that Araullo, along with other journalists, are “operatives” of the CPP-NPA-NDF. Araullo has dismissed the remarks as “malicious”.

There were no immediate comments from Badoy and Celiz on Araullo’s lawsuit. ICA/Expat Media
