Angelina Jolie shares details of Brad Pitt’s abusive behavior in a court filing

Angelina Jolie filed a court statement on Tuesday alleging that on a 2016 trip, Brad Pitt grabbed her by the head and shook her, then choked one of their children and struck another when they attempted to defend her.

The claims of violence on the private flight were included in a cross-complaint Jolie made in a separate issue from their ongoing divorce over a French home and winery they co-owned.

Pitt’s attorney, who was not authorized to speak publicly, firmly refuted Jolie’s charges, calling it “another rehash that only damages the family.”

The claims of abuse aboard the plane first became public immediately after the trip, but specifics were kept hidden in divorce proceedings and investigations by the FBI and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, all of which concluded that no action against Pitt was required.

Following a closed-door trial in which the charges were made public, a judge granted Pitt joint custody of the children. However, following a motion from Jolie, an appeals court disqualified the private judge for failing to disclose potential conflicts of interest, nullifying the verdict.

More facts about the charges were made public earlier this year when a Jolie lawsuit against the FBI was made public in connection with a Freedom of Information Act request.

The court filing was first published by the New York Times.

According to the petition, on September 14, 2016, Jolie, Pitt, and their six children traveled from Chateau Miraval to Los Angeles.

“Pitt’s aggressive behaviour started even before the family got to the airport, with Pitt having a confrontation with one of the children. After the flight took off, Jolie approached Pitt and asked him what was wrong,” the filing says. “Pitt accused her of being too deferential to the children and verbally attacked her.”

Later, it says: “He pulled her into the bathroom and began yelling at her. Pitt grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her, and then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the bathroom wall.”

According to the countersuit, one of the children, between the ages of 8 and 15, verbally defended Jolie at the time, and Pitt retaliated.

“Pitt lunged at his own child and Jolie grabbed him from behind to stop him. To get Jolie off his back, Pitt threw himself backwards into the airplane’s seats injuring Jolie’s back and elbow,” the filing says. “The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face.”

According to the complaint, he poured beer on Jolie and red wine on the children. BKM/ Expat Media
