Nearly 1,000 workers in Abu Dhabi have received payments towards outstanding employment dues after their labour disputes were resolved, with some also able to keep their jobs.
The Abu Dhabi Labour Court recovered Dh7.8 million for 948 workers from total claims amounting to Dh12.3 million.
The funds were secured through judicial deposits and direct settlements reached amicably between employers and employees, with the court, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) and the parties involved working together.
A total of 457 workers received their full entitlements, while 491 received partial payments. The remaining amounts were placed under structured instalment plans to support continued repayment.
The settlements also allowed affected workers to remain employed by the companies involved, helping maintain employment relationships and business continuity.
The court said the outcome reflected its commitment to resolving labour disputes promptly and protecting workers’ rights under applicable laws. It also highlighted cooperation with MoHRE to strengthen enforcement and support a stable working environment.
Most labour disputes resolved without court action
MoHRE resolved 185,793 labour disputes amicably in the first half of 2026, accounting for 98.6 per cent of all cases during the period. A further 2,481 cases, or 1.4 per cent, were referred to the judiciary for further action.
The ministry’s authority to adjudicate certain labour disputes directly, including claims of up to Dh50,000, has helped resolve cases more quickly and reduce the burden on local courts.
The ministry said this process also enables claimants to receive their legal entitlements sooner.
Wage Protection System monitors payments
The upgraded Wage Protection System has also been used to strengthen monitoring of employers’ compliance with wage-payment requirements and identify delays or violations at an early stage.
The system is integrated with MoHRE’s wider digital and regulatory platforms, supporting monitoring of employers and data-driven decisions.
Workers and employers can submit labour complaints or seek advice through MoHRE’s Labour Claims and Advisory Call Centre on 80084, or through the ministry’s website and smart app. ICA/Expat Media
