DUBAI – A massive drug bust in Dubai led to the arrest of a 70-year-old gang leader and the seizure of narcotics worth Dh1.8 million.
According to the Dubai Police Anti-Narcotics Department, 5.6 tonnes of captagon were found hidden in a shipment of electric cables from Syria to UAE. A sniffer dog was used to help spot the hidden drugs.
Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansoori said it was the largest drug bust in the world.
Police said that the 70-year-old drug gang leader was receiving benefits from charity. Six other gang members were also arrested in Sharjah and Ajman.
