DUBAI – Five Arab men have been arrested for stealing a Land Cruiser during a test drive in Sharjah, according to Sharjah Police.
The case was uncovered after a man posed as a customer to buy the Land Cruiser from the Emirati owner. He then asked for a test drive, issuing the Emirati a fake cheque of Dh250,000 as collateral.
When he failed to return the vehicle after two hours and could not be reached on the phone, the Emirati lodged a police case against him.
Police investigation led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the man and his four accomplices.
“Our investigations revealed they met regularly at a certain location in Ras Al Khaimah and all were of different Arab nationalities,” said Colonel Omar Ahmed Abu Al Zoud, director of Criminal Investigations Department at Sharjah Police.
The men were arrested in a sting operation by Sharjah Police with the help of Ras Al Khaimah Police.
Police recovered the vehicle and seized several cheque books and fake company stamps from the suspects. The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action. ICA/Expat Media
