3 arrested in Dubai after trying to smuggle drugs in fruit and vegetable container

DUBAI – Dubai Police arrested three members of a gang who tried to smuggle 123kg of drugs in a fruit and vegetable shipping container.

The suspects hid the large stash of crystal meth in the bottom of the container. Police set up a drug bust after receiving a tip-off about the smuggling bid.

The gang had sent the shipment through a local trader who was unaware that drugs were hidden inside the container.

Undercover officers kept surveillance until the gang members arrived to collect the container.

“As they proceeded to unload the drugs, our team took them by surprise and arrested the suspects red-handed,” said Brigadier Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb, director of the anti-narcotics department at Dubai Police.

During police interrogation, the men said they were acting on orders of a gang leader based in Asia. They said that they were promised Dh12,000 payment to collect and hide the drugs. ICA/Expat Media
