A 101-year-old woman received a First Class upgrade on her recent Emirates flight from Dubai to Algiers, making the trip all the more memorable for the centenarian.

Rachida Smati was flying back to her home in Algiers after visiting family and friends in Dubai when she was given the surprise upgrade and VIP treatment on her Emirates flight.

The Algerian national was fast-tracked through the airport on a buggy service and also experienced the First Class lounge ahead of her flight. As she boarded the plane, she was greeted by the captain and crew.

“I had a great experience on my Emirates flight to Dubai, the cabin crew were very kind and helpful. I’m looking forward to flying back to Algiers aboard Emirates and experiencing First Class, and I’m ever so grateful for the warm welcome by all of the teams,” Smati said.

Smati, who was born in Algeria in 1923, considers herself an avid traveler. Dubai is one of her favourite destinations, and this was her third time to visit the city. Her first flight was for Paris when she was 21 years old. She has since travelled to many countries and destinations, saying that traveling is part of what makes her feel young. ICA/Expat Media
