DUBAI – Now motorists can have their traffic fines wiped out in Dubai as part of a new scheme launched by the Dubai Police.
The Exemplary Driver scheme rewards safe driving and erases motorists’ traffic fines if they do not commit further traffic offences for 12 months.
Motorists who maintain a clean traffic record for 12 months will have their fines cleared in full, while those who maintain a clean traffic record for nine months will have a 75 percent discount on their fines.
The scheme, however, does not apply to vehicles registered to private companies, car rentals, and public or private transport companies.
Dubai Police chief Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri unveiled the campaign as part of the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Al Marri said the discount is being offered to help ease financial burden on motorists.
“I hope that this initiative will contribute to protecting the lives of road users, to making Dubai roads free of accidents and to achieve satisfaction and happiness of community members, which is the strategic objective for the government and for Dubai Police,” Al Marri said.
The Dubai Police chief added that the one-year initiative may be extended based on its success rate. GAD/Expat Media
