DUBAI – A nationwide walkathon to raise awareness about arthritis will be held at the Dubai Creek Park on February 21.
The 2020 Walk for Arthritis Walkathon is open to the public, according to organizer Middle East Arthritis Foundation (MEAF). The event is supported by Dubai Municipality.
Walkathon participants will cover 3.5km along the Dubai Creek Park (Gate 2) for a morning walk starting at 8am.
“This walkathon for arthritis patients helps us break the myth that such patients cannot lead a normal life and also acts as a great plateau buster for them to renew their motivation, build camaraderie with other patients and caregivers who are there to extend their complete support,” said Dr. Humeira Badsha, consultant rheumatologist and founding member of MEAF.
There are more than 50 million people diagnosed with some form of arthritis across the globe, with one in five people in the UAE affected by the disease.
The 2020 Walk for Arthritis Walkathon will have the presence of specialised doctors on-site to bust some of the common misconceptions about bone health.
Lots of family-themed fun-filled activities are scheduled during the day, including outdoor fitness classes and vibrant dance performance, and a super-hero themed fancy-dress competition. ICA/Expat Media
