DUBAI – What does it take to start and run your business in the UAE successfully?
It’s more than just throwing money at the business to make it work. You need to have a strong plan and the drive to see it through.
Expatmedia.net talked to Dubai-based entrepreneur Michael da Costa on his top tips to building your empire and sustaining it. Here’s what he said:
Do not open a business that somebody mentioned seems to be a “good” business. Go into something you actually know and are interested in.
If you can tirelessly work for someone else, you can give your business more than that. People always say, “You are lucky you don’t have a boss”, or “You are lucky you don’t have to ‘time in’ and ‘time out’ for work”.
I don’t have a boss, I have something bigger: I have a business I need to attend to. My business is me and I am my business, which I think is more important than any boss. Regarding working for a fixed time, forget the 9-5 concept! Once you open a business, you are on 24/7 alert. You are in constant work mode: no leaves, no holidays, no days off. Anywhere and everywhere you go, you have the business at the back of your mind.
If you won’t jump to being an entrepreneur now, then when?
