DUBAI – A 22-year-old student in Sharjah won his own apartment in the emirate after joining a competition on Instagram.
Mikail Atiyeh, a Sharjah resident for the last 14 years, said he first dismissed the competition that developer ARADA posted on the social media site.
The contest was for a new one-bedroom apartment in the upcoming Ajada residence project. All he needed to do was create a video showing what a person would do when he or she strolled into the apartment for the first time.
The student from University of Sharjah said he got his two sisters involved in creating a video and began thinking about themes of family, happiness and excitement.
They only had two months before the deadline, but “were determined to make a quality video that was entertaining, funny and unique”.
Atiyeh said he submitted four videos inspired by the song Fresh by Kool and Gang that he heard on the radio. His entry made it to the top 5 out of 436 entries.
“I was completely shocked when I won the contest. I didn’t know it was going to happen,” he said.
The student says he plans to keep the apartment, which he describes as a “place to call home and a permanent place for me and my family”.
The keys to the apartment will be handed over to him next year. GAD/Expat Media
