Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan buried in Abu Dhabi

 

DUBAI – Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the brother of President Sheikh Khalifa, was buried in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday (November 20).

Rulers in the UAE gathered in the capital to attend Sheikh Sultan’s funeral as rain fell in parts of the country.

Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, led members of the country’s royal families to perform funeral prayers for his brother.

Funeral prayers were held at Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed The First Mosque in Al Bateen at noon.

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed was later pictured helping carry Sheikh Sultan’s body out of the mosque after funeral prayers. Sheikh Sultan’s body was draped with the UAE flag.

Sheikh Sultan, the President’s Representative, died on Monday while receiving medical treatment abroad. He was 64. His body was returned to the UAE on Tuesday ahead of the burial.

A three-day period of mourning was observed in the country beginning on Monday, with flags flown at half-mast and radio stations playing instrumental music.

The Al Nahyan family will receive condolences on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Al Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi.

On Wednesday, condolences will be received after Asr and Maghrib prayers, while on Thursday and Friday, condolences will be received from 10am until noon prayers, and after Asr and Maghrib prayers. ICA/Expat Media
