Sharjah Filipino Labor Day on May 3: Prizes, competitions, bazaar and more reasons not to miss it

 

DUBAI – The biggest Filipino community event in Sharjah is happening on May 3 at the Sharjah Indian School in Al Ghubaiba, Sharjah, in celebration of Labour Day.

The day-long event, a project of the Sharjah Labour Standards Development Authority, will open at 10am and will feature dance and music competitions, an awareness campaign on labour laws, free medical and dental camp, job fair, bazaar, entertainment and giveaways.

Here are eight reasons you shouldn’t miss it

1. It’s the first Filipino fiesta in Sharjah

The government initiative aims to bring the Filipino community together with games, shows and loads of entertainment. Your Friday just can’t get any better than that!

2. Prizes and more prizes!

Visitors will get the chance to win prizes from sponsors, including a smartphone, meal vouchers from Chicking, three free balikbayan box services courtesy of LBC, and more vouchers from AMR Travel & Tourism. The UAE Exchange, Sharjah Courts, Red Crescent, National Paints, Sharjah Police and other agencies will also sponsor giveaways. Don’t forget to fill out the stub!

3. Free medical and dental check-up

Volunteer physicians and nurses will be around to give free medical and dental check-up to make sure you are in top shape! A roving medical bus will also park at the venue.

4. Mini job fair

A few companies will be setting up camp for interviews on site for a host of positions in hospitality, travel and service industries. Meet HR personnels from Dusit Thani Dubai, Khalid Bin Hadda Group, AMR Travel & Tourism,  Pinoy Cares, Millennium Hotels, Risalla Home Health Care and more. You can also drop your CV for some job hirings in hospitality, sales, entertainment, among others.

5. Talk with Sharjah government officials

Police and Labor officials will be holding an awareness campaign so you can ask those burning questions about UAE laws on labour and more.

6. Enjoy the bazaar

Your favourite Filipino brands will be participating in the bazaar, so shop until you drop!

7. Watch competitions & shows

There will be three competitions to show Filipinos’ prowess in music and entertainment, plus, cultural performances from the community. Sit back, relax and pass the popcorn!

8. Join the competitions

Total prizes of Dh15,000 are up for grabs, with a top prize of Dh3,000 each in three major competitions: OPM Singing Sensation, Hip Hop Dance Contest and Battle of the Bands. Screening will be on site so be there and try your luck! Find out more
