DUBAI – Tennis star Rafael Nadal has his eyes set on the Mubadala World Tennis Championship as he returns to Abu Dhabi to bag the top prize.
The Spanish player will be in the capital from December 27-29 and will be joined by Novak Djokovic, Kevin Anderson and Venus Williams, who is making her debut in Abu Dhabi.
“The tournament brings together players at the top of their game; we all relish playing in these extremely competitive matches,” Nadal said.
The 17-time Gand Slam champion said he was eager to return to Abu Dhabi after being forced to pull out of last year’s tournament.
“Abu Dhabi is one of my favourite places to play, the climate, atmosphere and enthusiasm from the crowds at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship provides the perfect start to the new season,” he said.
The tournament will be held at the International Tennis Centre at Zayed Sports City. On the opening day, children aged 2-12 get free entry with the purchase of an adult ticket.
Day two of the tournament will also see the tennis stars in a live cooking demonstration, while day three will focus on women’s welfare.
