DUBAI – School children in Abu Dhabi will get a special holiday on Tuesday (February 5), according to the Ministry of Education.
Students in Dubai and Sharjah were also given a holiday on Monday (February 4), according to the ministry, as adverse weather conditions were felt in parts of the emirates.
The holiday for school children in Abu Dhabi follows a decision giving a holiday on Tuesday to private sector workers with tickets to Pope Francis’ mass in the capital that day.
The pope arrived in the UAE on Sunday for a three-day visit of the emirates. He will be holding a papal mass for around 135,000 people at Zayed Sports City on Tuesday.
The pope is the first Argentinian pontiff to visit the Gulf region and his visit comes as the UAE marks 2019 as the Year of Tolerance. GAD/Expat Media
