AJMAN – A man was fined Dh5,000 for filming two girls at a mall in Ajman, according to a newspaper report.
The girls were shopping at Ajman China Mall when they noticed the man filming them. One of the girls confronted him and demanded to check his mobile phone.
They saw more than seven video clips of them in the man’s phone, according to Al Bayan.
In court, the man was found guilty of filming the girls and ordered that his mobile phone be confiscated and that he be fined Dh5,000.
He denied purposely filming the girls and told the public prosecutors that he was taking footage of shops in the mall.
In the UAE, it is illegal to take a photo or video of someone in public without their permission. Breaching other people’s privacy invites a fine ranging from Dh150,000 to Dh500,000 and at least one year in jail. GAD/Expat Media
