DUBAI – A Lebanese man serving a prison term for killing his girlfriend will get a fresh trial before the Dubai Appeal Court.
The convict, 31, is serving a seven-year jail term for killing his Vietnamese girlfriend in her apartment in April 2017. He choked her to death in a heated argument over Dh70,000 that she owed him.
He was initially given a life sentence, but in September the Dubai Appeal Court, citing leniency, reduced the sentence to seven years in jail.
On Monday, his lawyer told the court that the Lebanese man had obtained a waiver from the victim’s parents who dropped all charges against him.
The court referred the case back to the Dubai Appeal Court for a new panel of judges to hold a fresh trial. GAD/Expat Media
