DUBAI – Is she, or isn’t she?
Media mogul Oprah Winfrey had put to rest any question about a potential bid to run for the 2020 presidency.
But now she’s revealing the one thing that could make her change her mind.
“I had people ― wealthy, billionaires ― calling me up and saying, ‘I can get you a billion dollars. I can run your campaign,”’ she said in a new interview with People magazine.
“That many people saying something made me think, ‘Am I at least supposed to look at the question?’”
Oprah said she “went into prayer.”
″‘God, if you think I’m supposed to run, you gotta tell me, and it has to be so clear that not even I can miss it.’ And I haven’t gotten that,” she told People.
Earlier this month, the media mogul had declared on late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live that she is “definitely not running.”
“Where do I look into the camera? I am definitely not running for president,” Winfrey said over cries of “no” from the studio audience.
Winfrey earlier this year sent Twitter ablaze with calls for her to run for president after giving an inspiring speech at the Golden Globe awards in support of those who have exposed sexual misconduct.
“You now, you give a speech and then you sit down and you have surprisingly started to run for president,” Winfrey told Kimmel, calling it “a humbling thing to have people think that you can run the country.”
However, she acknowledged having thought about running for president.
“I am the kind of person who tries to listen to signs. I think, well am I supposed to run the country? I don’t think so.”
Winfrey first rose to fame as the host of a television talk show, using it to build a media empire that spans magazine publishing, movie and television production, cable TV and satellite radio.
She is now one of the world’s wealthiest women and been nominated for two Academy Awards.
