DUBAI – Indian comedian Manjunath Naidu collapsed and died on stage while performing at a packed show in a Dubai hotel on Friday.
Naidu, 36, was performing at Signature hotel and had complained of high anxiety before he sat down on a bench on stage and collapsed onto the floor.
The audience initially thought it was part of his act as he was just minutes into his stand-up routine.
When he did not get up, hotel staff administered CPR while a shocked audience looked on. The comedian was taken to a hospital in Al Barsha where he was declared dead. The cause of death was not revealed.
Naidu’s partner, Grace Chng, described him in a Facebook post as a “most amazing standup comedian, incredible improviser and great person with a big heart”.
Chng said that Naidu’s remains will be cremated on Sunday (July 21). Final rites are scheduled on Tuesday or Wednesday, she said.
