Freak weather hits UAE: Hail in Dubai, rain in Sharjah, Al Ain. Scroll down for 5-day weather forecast

 

DUBAI – An unexpected downpour hit Dubai and the rest of the UAE on Friday (August 23), with some hail reported in parts of the emirate.

In Dubai, heavy rain with hail fell on Al Aweer, according to the National Centre of Meteorology. Hail was also reported in Silicon Oasis.

Strong winds kicked up a dust storm before the downpour at around 4pm, reducing visibility to a few meters. The weather bureau also reported heavy rain over Silicon City in Nad Al Sheba.

Moderate rain fell on International City and Academic City. In Sharjah, rain fell in Al Dhaid, Mleiha, Khor Fakkan and Al Madam. Rainshowers were also reported in Al Ain and Umm Al Quwain.

The Dubai Police issued an advisory to motorists, urging them to “drive carefully and safely due to unstable weather conditions on SMBZR – Emirates rd – Al Warqaa – Nad Al Sheba [sic]”.

 

Meanwhile, the weather bureau has raised its warning from yellow to orange, signaling people to “be prepared” of hazardous weather conditions.

The weather bureau forecasts sporadic rain to continue in parts of the UAE until Monday.

Light to moderate winds, freshening at times causing blowing dust and sand during day time with clouds, with a speed of 20 – 30 km/hr, reaching 40 km/hr. The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea.

Sunday

Fair to partly cloudy, with the a probability of some convective clouds formation Eastward by afternoon. Humid by night and on early Monday morning, especially coastal areas. Light to moderate winds, freshening at times causing blowing dust and sand during day time, with a speed of 18 – 28 km/hr, reaching 38 km/hr. The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman

Monday

Fair to partly cloudy, with a probability of some convective clouds eastward by afternoon. Humid by night and on Tuesday early morning especially coastal areas. Light to moderate winds, freshening at times causing blowing dust during day time, with a speed of 20 – 30 km/hr, reaching 40 km/hr. The Sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea.

Tuesday

Fair in general and some clouds appear eastward by the afternoon. Humid by night and on Wednesday early morning especially coastal areas. Light to moderate winds, freshening at times causing blowing dust during day time, with a speed of 20 – 30 km/hr, reaching 40 km/hr. The sea will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea.
