DUBAI – The former president of the United States, George HW Bush, has died, according to a statement from his office on Saturday (December 1). He was 94.

“George Herbert Walker Bush, World War II naval aviator, Texas oil pioneer, and 41st President of the United States of America, died on November 30, 2018,” according to the statement.

Funeral arrangements are to be made as soon as possible for the 41st American president, who was in office from 1989 to 1993.

Bush is survived by his five children, including George W. Bush, his 17 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two siblings.

Funeral arrangements are to be made as soon as possible. His death comes just months after the death of his wife, Barbara, in April.

George W. Bush said his father was a “man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for”.

“The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41’s life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens,” he said in a statement.

US President Donald Trump, in a statement, expressed condolences to the Bush family, and described the older Bush as a man with “unflappable leadership”.

“Melania and I join with a grieving Nation to mourn the loss of former President George H.W. Bush, who passed away last night,” he said. GAD/Expat Media
