DUBAI – Two Russian siblings who lost their parents in a flydubai plane crash will be getting a Dh800,000 compensation.
The Dubai Civil Court on Monday ordered the Dubai-based carrier to pay the amount to the brother and sister for damages.
The siblings will also get an additional nine percent legal interest.
Flydubai flight FZ981 crashed in Russia’s city of Rostov-on-Don in 2016, killing 62 people, including seven crew members.
The sibling’s lawyer had lodged a civil lawsuit against flydubai and sought nearly Dh74 million in compensation.
“The claimants are the only heirs of the Russian parents. The accident happened due to the crewmembers’ error,” said lawyer Mohammad Al Hashemi, of Al Hashemi Advocates and Legal Consultants.
The lawsuit was lodged after attempts to get flydubai to offer a financial settlement to the Russian siblings failed.
