HOLLYWOOD – The final season of hit TV series Game of Thrones will air in the first half of 2019, an HBO executive confirmed.
The production of a prequel is expected to start next year.
Casey Bloys, HBO’s president of programming, declined to give details about the eight and final Game of Thrones season.
Bloys, speaking at a Television Critics Association event, also did not give a more specific premiere date.
HBO is currently looking for a director and cast for the Game of Thrones prequel, Bloys said.
In June, the network said it ordered the pilot of the prequel and would go ahead with a full series if the pilot is well received.
The prequel is yet untitled and will take place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones. It was created by British screenwriter Jane Goldman with author George R.R.
It will chronicle “the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour,” and look at the secrets of the history of the warring families in the fictional kingdom of Westeros, the network has said.
HBO considered five different scripts before settling on the approach for the prequel. GAD/Expat Media
